Yesterday was a great day at the market. It is such a pleasure to meet people who understand the idea behind my trade. I can envision an entire row of booksellers, each with his or her individual tastes, each promoting books and book culture on a sunny day. A good friend of mine who has lived for many years in Paris tells me that along the Seine there are dozens of independent book vendors. The city provides attractive and permanent lock-boxes for their inventory.
